When the country singer’s fiancée had a verbal back and forth with someone at a party, he wanted to overtly defend her and head to the guy’s house for some comeuppance. That didn’t happen. But the seeds for ‘wait in the truck’ were sown, and the inventive songwriter created a dark drama that stands tall while reminding us of the tragedy caused by domestic abuse around the world each and every day. Director Justin Clough brings an intense visual mood to the foreground as HARDY’s vengeance tale unfolds. Singer Lainey Wilson plays the victim here, and in our Footnotes chat she describes both her emotions surrounding the shoot and the way applying her make-up made her feel.
