I wanted to do a little side-by-side comparison of the two scenes.

The season 9 version lingers on the future Barry a little longer (more than likely because, well, the ‘future’ Barry is just our Barry now), so I had to cut down the scenes slightly to fit with season 1’s version of the scene. It’s fun to see the differences between the two, 8 years worth of experience separate the two versions of the character. For season 1’s Barry, this is his first time traveling back; before Flashpoint, before everything. He’s a version of Barry who’s freshly figured out what happened to his mother and who actually killed her. It’s all very raw and fresh to him. But season 9’s Barry is way further along; he’s had time to sit with it. He’s already tried to stop it; he already knows what happens if he does. He knows what has to happen, and he has the strength to let it do so. That’s especially the case after being given a chance to spend time with both his parents one last time. He’s finally reached the point where he can tell his younger self not to interfere. I’ve had my fair share of issues with the show in recent years, and even in the last few episodes, but this was a wonderful way to tie the show’s beginning and end together, and I believe they did the job well.

On a more technical and creative side, I’d like to do another edit to give season 9’s Barry the same sort of vibration effect he had before, but for now, I think this does the job of conveying the pre-existing differences.

Overall, I had a lot of fun seeing this episode; it really brought me back to some of the reasons I liked this show so much.
