The 26-year-old Texas-born Italian sprinter who surprised everyone by winning the 100 metres at the Tokyo Olympics might just be getting started.
“I am still quite shocked. I not even sure about what to expect for us in the future, but I am sure Marcell is a new man,” said Marcell Jacobs’ mother Viviana Masini, a hotel owner in Manerbio del Garda.
Masini watched the medal ceremony on television from the lobby of her hotel, together with friends, hotel employees and Italian police agents, as Jacobs officially trains as a member of the police team.
Jacobs moved to Rome with his family to prepare for the Olympics, but when all public venues were shut down during the first lockdown in 2020 to prevent the spread of Covid-19, he moved back to Manerbio where he was able to continue his training at a small private track and field training venue.
